I am in the middle of circle time the other day. We are reading a story about why birds fly south for the winter. One of my lovely girls raises her hand. I am thinking to myself here we go. Once we start talking during a story it usually takes me a good five minutes to get us back to the story. But I understood that birds flying South for the winter is a hard idea to understand for a four year old child. So I let her ask her question. Only it wasn't a question it was a statement.
Child: “Ms Jenni, Uncle Sam is taking all of my daddy’s money!” She then decided to stand up and say it again while waving her arms around for effect.
First thought is, yep mine too. I just pull the book up over my face and laugh for a second. And then I go into explaining that Uncle Sam builds a lot of things with that money like kindergarten schools. You gotta think fast before there is a panic in the preschool about stolen money. That seemed to make everyone happy. I was worried about them understanding migration and here they want to tell me what they know about taxes!
